The hacker group Anonymous has attacked numerous government run websites like the FBI's. These attacks were coordinated as retaliation to the U.S. Governments decision to shutdown the MegaUpload website. The owners of this site were also indicted yesterday on charges that allege they were running a file-sharing system. Chats that were released by the government yesterday showed Anonymous group members celebrating the brief shutdown of the FBI, DOJ, and MPAA websites. While the websites were only downed for a short amount of time, the government does say that Anonymous still poses a serious threat to Internet users worldwide. Officials also said that this was most likely in response to another problem the hacker group has, the infamous SOPA and PIPA bills.

The Department of Homeland Security is getting ready to put new X-Ray scanners in place at our borders. However, is this dangerous to those crossing the border? While the scanners are being put in place to help cut down on the illegal transit of people, guns, drugs, and money; this can still pose a very serious health risk. The scanners use iodizing radiation, which is known for it's role in destroying bodily organs, raising cancer risks, and endangering pregnancies. The topic is causing a mass debate between the people and the government, however no response was given from the Department of Homeland Security.

Grover Norquist, the traditionally conservative fund, is now backing away from it's support on the SOPA bill. The bill, which is backed by lawmakers and Hollywood, would choke off access to any websites fostering pirated materials. The methods used to block these websites contain similar programs used to block access to webpages in Iran and China. Grover Norquist, the same fund which has backed strict copyrighting laws in the past, is now backing away from the act. They say it has too many flaws and open clauses which can lead to abuse by the government. The SOPA bill is set to hit the Senate floor for an open vote on January 24th, with almost all lawmakers behind it.

Do Now 1/4

When I use my computer, I use a hierarchical system because it's easier to access things when they're in their specific folders. I find it easier to save work in a work folder and games in a game folder, and it saves time by cutting out looking for the actual file somewhere else. This system just makes it easier for me to find everything right when I need it while cutting down on my desktop clutter.

Tagging is a system used to label a photo, video, or document and helps people know what its about, whats in it, and also helps refine a search. So, for example, you could tag a movie trailer for Mission Impossible with Tom Cruise, so people looking up his name can see he's in that movie. Social Bookmarking is the overall method for organizing and storing things on the Internet. With this you can comment, like a video, tag it, or save a link to a web page.

Top executives believe cell phone carriers didn't properly plug the previous BlackBerry 7. Regardless, RIM is still keeping their expectations fairly low, with top executives acknowledging their disappointment with the companies current path. Also, the company is re pitching the PlayBook Tablet, RIM's counter to the popular IPad2.
